“Crowning” Achievement for Mariam

7 September 2021

City College student Mariam Alghabra has gained three top grades in her A levels enabling her to study dentistry at Bristol University.

A refugee from war-torn Syria, Mariam has gone far more than the extra mile to fulfill her promise.

After an unsuccessful start at further education elsewhere in Stoke, she returned to study with City College in Burslem, attached VIth form of her former school, Haywood Academy, which she joined having making the traumatic journey from her homeland.

Mariam’s dream to be a dentist may have initially eluded her, but the City Learning Trust funded her course costs in her final year, recognizing her overwhelming desire and commitment.

Strategic Lead at the Queen Street based establishment, Justin Heath, commented: “City College prides itself on being different and making a difference – and there is no better example than Mariam’s wonderful success. Supporting our students in whatever form is what we are all about.”

Well done, Mariam!
