Centre UCAS Overview

City College offers A level and BTEC programmes to students from the local area. 81.8% of our students are former Haywood Academy students. Our Year 13 cohort have predominantly studied 3 A levels, or a mix of A levels and Level 3 BTECs. Our selection of courses are listed here.

Our curriculum also offers Level 1 and Level 2 qualifications, and these represent a higher proportion of our students. Our current Key Stage 5 cohort consists of 55 students, 31 of these are Year 13 A level students. Internal assessments are used at 4 key data points to determine predicted grades.

23.6% of the cohort are eligible for FSM. This shows that A level studies are not necessarily the norm for candidates from City College, and indeed that for many students, progression to FE might have been beyond family expectations. Students have been given the opportunity to participate in an enrichment programme which includes work shadowing or volunteering, employability skills, leadership skills and bespoke work experience opportunities.

A level and BTEC students have experienced taster sessions at various universities, have attended the UCAS Roadshow, and have had talks from university guest speakers as part of their enrichment programme. Students have also had enterprise days, experiencing workshops that better inform them about HE, and careers advice 1-2-1s via our careers team. Many have been to relevant university open days.
