City College benefits from being a member of the City Learning Trust and wider Haywood Academy that has already created a successful school community built on co-operation and learning. We are very conscious that at 16 our students’ journey is not finished.

Students moving to City College from another school will have a stress-free transition. We will make sure that they have chosen the right course and are making excellent progress right from day one. A personal tutor will care about their progress and wellbeing. Groups will be small so students will be given the time they need to share thoughts, ideas or concerns to make sure the outcomes are great for them.

For students already studying at Haywood Academy, staying with their school sixth form provides continuity in their learning and an environment where they are known and which encourages the highest standards.

To study A levels at City College students will need a minimum of a 4 in both English and Maths, and a minimum of a 5 in the chosen subject (or similar). Specific criteria apply to each course; see courses for further details.

To study BTEC courses students will need a minimum of a 4 in both English and Maths, and three GCSEs Grade 9-4. See courses for further details.

Applications for the Enterprise L2/3 programme will depend primarily on the availability of the job opportunity students want and their attitude. See courses for further details.

We are offering a wide curriculum choice based on what students need to access the best universities – some of them in other countries – or to access jobs or apprenticeships. The curriculum has been tailored to suit each and every one of our students whatever their interests and long-term plans.
