Pastoral support

City College is different… and it makes a difference. We aim to raise aspirations, expectations and achievement for all our students in a happy, caring and successful learning environment.

Our mission is to develop highly qualified and skilled young adults who achieve to the best of their ability, who are active citizens and who are fully committed to supporting both their local and the global community.

If you’re joining the college from another school or college, the induction process and pastoral system is designed to ease your ‘settling in’ period and support is available from the college team throughout the transfer process and on into the academic year.

If you’re transferring into City College from Year 11 at Haywood Academy, there is the advantage that you will already be well-known and your strengths and weaknesses already identified, so we can offer guidance and support from the beginning of your college life and you can focus on your work and other activities in a secure and well-understood environment.

The personal tutor is a central figure for students at City College. Tutors have pastoral oversight of all of our young people and will meet regularly with you either individually or in groups. It is the tutor’s role to be the first point of contact between you, your parents, and the college.

Supporting the personal tutor are Mrs Devey (Pastoral Leader) and Mr Heath, who take active roles in the lives of students and will personally monitor your academic progression throughout your time at City College. They will liaise closely with other agencies and provide extra professional support and guidance if you need it.

There is also a dedicated careers team, working together for you to move you through the UCAS application process or support you in gaining employment.
