Students will be designing and manufacturing high quality textile prototypes to solve problems or to enhance lifestyles. Learning about Textile Design principles.
They will be based in the fashion studio using cutting edge technology. They will use excellent CAD/CAM facilities such as Dye Sublimation Printers, Laser Cutters and CAD/CAM machine embroidery.
Exam/coursework breakdown:
Unit 1: Materials, Components and Application (50% of AS Level, 25% of A Level)
Two hour written exam.
Unit 2: Learning Through Designing and Making (50% of AS Level, 25% of A Level)
Coursework approximately 50 hours.
Unit 3: Beliefs in Society; Global Development; Mass Media; Power and Politics (25% of A Level)
Two hour written exam.
Unit 4: Design and Making Practice (25% of A Level)
Coursework approximately 60 hours.
Entry requirements:
Five GCSEs Grade A* – C including maths and English.
B Grade in GCSE Textiles or Product Design is ideal. Other practical or creative (Engineering/Art) subject B Grade or Merit also considered.
Students need an interest in Textiles and Fashion, enjoy a practical environment, be creative, an independent learner, and be determined to succeed.
Progression possibilities:
Students can go onto studying Fashion Design, Materials Science, Fashion Promotion, Journalism, Marketing, Fashion Buyer, Design Engineer, or any other creative subject at university. This can then lead to a career in these areas.
*This is a two year A Level course. Students will be graded at AS Level at the end of Year 12 to benchmark their progress.
